Wonder goal helps boost women’s football in Ireland

We had the absolute pleasure of working with Republic of Ireland women’s international, 2014 FIFA Puskás award nominee and internet sensation Stephanie Roche in Dublin on Saturday last.

Steph, who now plays for French pro side Albi, was in town to highlight her Puskás award nomination so we made the most of her visit to highlight our client Continental Tyres’ association with the women’s game in Ireland – and have a bit of craic while we were at it.

Having set up the fearsome Continental Tyres inflatable target shoot in one of Dublin’s busiest shopping areas, we invited all-comers to take aim and see if their shooting was as sharp as that of our special guest. The results were mixed!

People were delighted to meet Stephanie – decked out in our Continental branded gear – and she couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating as she signed autographs, posed for photos and answered questions from fans young and old.

We then brought her indoors for a series of  media interviews, with journalists only too happy to sit down and chat to a player whose spectacular goal has given a massive boost to women’s football, not just in Ireland but on the global stage.

That goal – 3 million Twitter views and counting – was captured on camera while Stephanie was playing for her old club, Peamount United, securing her a place as the only female on the Puskás shortlist where she’s up against the likes of Diego Costa, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, James Rodriguez and others.
