PRGN's truly global gathering

More than 40 PR agencies from around the world, including sole Irish member Cullen Communications, were represented at the spring gathering of PRGN (Public Relations Global Network) in Washington, DC, last week.

The twice-yearly conference brought together some of the world’s leading independent PR agencies for a think-tank on industry best practice and opportunities for member firms and their clients to collaborate in local markets. The network also welcomed three new member agencies, two in the US and one in China.

Cullen Communications was represented in Washington by agency Managing Director Owen Cullen and founder Frank Cullen, himself a former President of PRGN. Owen Cullen described the meeting as “productive and positive” and said the strong focus on business development is an important aspect of PRGN.

“We’re there to learn from one another by discussing best practice and trends within our own markets, that’s the first thing,” he said. “We are also actively discussing and looking for ways to generate new business for ourselves and our clients which is very stimulating and potentially of huge benefit.

“Since joining PRGN we have collaborated on projects with agencies in the UK, the US, France, Germany and elsewhere,” Owen went on. “For these agencies and their clients, we represent a gateway to the Irish market and provide an ‘eyes and ears’ service to brands that may be considering expanding into Ireland.”

The current President of the network, Evelyn John Holtzhausen, founder of HWB Communications in Cape Town, South Africa, said: “With a new total of 47 member agencies, PRGN is ideally positioned to help its clients succeed in global markets.”

The three agencies that were voted into PRGN last week included The Equity Group from New York, Evans Larson Communications from Minnesota and LBS Communications Consulting from Hong Kong. These new members extend the reach of the network into most major cities around the world.

Notwithstanding, PRGN continues to look for new members as it expands in both the US and Europe as well as other global markets. Agency members are independent, local, owner-operated PR and communications firms that share expertise and resources, while providing broad-based comprehensive communications strategies to clients worldwide.

The next gathering of PRGN will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, in November 2016.
