Commercial power puts Ford in driving seat

A barnstorming display by Ford’s commercial vehicle range pushed the Cork-based manufacturer into No. 1 position for overall vehicle sales in the month of September.

As we blogged recently, car sales in Ireland are bouncing back strongly and the full-year market for 2014 remains on course to reach the 100,000-unit mark for cars and commercials combined.

Ford are riding high in the sales charts with two cars in the country’s top five best-selling models (Focus and Fiesta) and once again utterly dominating the CV market.

A total of 404 new Ford commercials were sold during September, a figure that not only dwarfs all other CV competitors but that out-strips almost all other manufacturers’ car sales too.

Spearheading Ford’s commercial dominance – as ever – is the ubiquitous Ford Transit, now packed with new technology and still very much the go-to vehicle for big and small businesses alike.

“Our dealers have always held the view that the Ford CV range is a premium brand in its own right,” said Ford Ireland chief, Eddie Murphy. “At the heart of our CV line-up is the Ford Transit, once again the driving force behind an excellent sales performance in September.”

“Our aim now is to push on towards the end of the year, when we’ll have a new Focus and a new Mondeo to join our ranks, hopefully putting us in pole position to take advantage of a strongly resurgent car market in 2015,” Mr Murphy added.

As the Irish economy continues on the road to recovery, Ford – and its best selling Transit – will continue to be a driving force.
