Our sports PR division was in its element at a sunny Aviva Stadium last Sunday, with not one but two clients involved in Irish football’s showpiece occasion – cup finals day!
First up was the Continental Tyres FAI Senior Women’s Cup Final, immediately followed by the FAI Ford Senior Cup Final. Even though our main focus was on the women’s final, as the Irish PR agency for both Ford and Continental Tyres we were heavily involved in the big day.
Contesting the women’s final were Raheny United – one of the powerhouses of the Irish game – and their south Dublin counterparts, UCD Waves. After a tense 90 minutes, the game went to extra time with Raheny United’s Siobhan Killeen delivering the goods and the goal to secure an incredible FAI Cup hat-trick for the northside ladies.
A special mention to all the supporters, not only those cheering for Raheny and UCD, but the thousands of St Patrick’s Athletic and Derry City supporters who made sure the atmosphere in the Aviva was electric throughout the women’s final.
When the men’s final kicked off, it was St Pat’s who came out on top to claim their first Ford FAI Cup for more than half a century, completing a dream day for the Dubs!
Both matches were televised live on RTE2, with Continental Tyres front and centre as overall cup sponsors. In addition to consumer promotion activity and corporate hospitality, our main role on the day was to work with the FAI in making sure that the Continental Tyres cast and crew felt as welcome and involved as possible.
Then again, when you love sport as much as we do, a day like last Sunday doesn’t even feel like work. Surrounded by players, supporters, TV cameras, the buzz was just brilliant – and the quality of football wasn’t bad either!
On which note, check out this amazing goal by Raheny United’s Katy McCabe during the Continental Tyres FAI Senior Women’s Cup Final – truly, a goal fit to grace any cup final.
Well done to all.
